I still think that the best way to stop the conflict in Iraq is by the withdrawal of troops of this country. I think that the involvement of US forces in iraq is not the most efficient way to stop the violence, because most of it is apointed against them(and additionally increasing the possibility of terrorist assaults on USA). The objective of the removal of Saddam Hussein and the implementation of a democratic government in Iraq was achieved, but this did not seem to stop terrorism and poverty among society. The war is not popular for most americans, and especially for 80% of the population in Iraq. The Unites States want to help to reconstruct the economic, social and political crisis in Iraq, but if Iraqis do not want to cooperate with us then we wont cooperate with them. At the beginning of the war the US presence in Iraq was clear with the goals and achievements they had to accomplish in order to withdraw from the country. But after 5 years of struggling through a ‘civil war’ and wasting increasing amounts of money on military, I think it has come to a point where the Unites States can’t do much more than Iraq its self.

A) this entry talks about the life of Iraqi citizens living in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, while it was bombarded. The author writes about the horrifying bombing and violence that is caused by military and sets different examples to support his point. He points out that the bombing of cities creates a chaotic and un-stable situation, and it provides many dificulties to the living condition of the population.

B) This source is reliable, because it provides a specific,  neutral, yet clear viewpoint of the consecuences of the violence in Iraq in cities such as Baghdad. He wrote this entry to show us how citizens of a nation suffer under a war, and then a civil war.

C) This source is reliable because the identity of the author comes from Iraqi Background and the blog’s information is clear defined and exposed. Al Tarrar managed to explain to us how Iraqi citizens lived during the war, and how they were scared of being killed with no remorse by militias or other military forces.

D) Al Tarrar represents the suffering citiziens that lived in Iraq during bombings and during other uses of violence. He talks about specific situations where individuals are assasinated by military forces, and uses these neutral examples to create an opinion for the audience.

E) To support his answer, he used examples of specific characters that lived during the war, such as the “health minister” or “Saddam Hussein”. He used a bright comparison to illustrate the image of Baghdad being in total destruction: “It’s like a devastated Pompei visited by Nero”. perhaps he could have talked more about the groups that cause the mass-destruction and how this may have been possible to end.

A) This entry provides a trong opinion about the impact of the Iraqi war and the U.S intervention and occupation among the suffering Iraqi families. Faiza Al-Arji is a woman that lived the chaotic state of Iraq, during and after the war. She communiates her personal feelings and thoughts about the conflict and provides facts of war and violence to support her point. She feels compassion for all other Iraqis that have suffered the constant violence of all military groups within Iraq and therefore concerns about the political crisis of the Iraqi government.

B) I think the source is reliable according to the author’s heritage, her role in society and her finality to illustrate  the Iraqi conflict in her blogs.

C) This source is reliable because it provides the truth of the Iraqi war and its influence in society. She makes it clear that Iraqi’s suffered extremely of the violence that militias, terrorist groups and even US forces caused.

D) Al-Arji represents the majority of population in Iraq and she disagrees with the minorities that handle a non-stable and corrupt government.

E) She talks about poverty among families living in Iraq. She says that the war and the occupation have made families, living in cities, suffer under a heavy bombing and of a constant use of violence. She expresses the details of the Iraqi lives, where citizens are afraid to leave their houses, in order to not get killed. Perhaps she could have introduced more opinion about the government and poverty situation before the war had started.

-Genocide-

“Genocide is the deliberate and systematic, destruction of an racial, religious, or national group”. Genocide is an event that has happened several times throughout history, such as during the holocaust, in Armenia, in Rwanda, in Darfur, or in Yugoslavia.

Genocide is today officially recognized as a crime against humanity and all future acts of genocide will be banned, and then punished. Various organizations, such as the NATO or the CPPCG, have been formed to maintain international peace, and prevent any type of genocide. In latest incidence, the Bosnian Genocide, the NATO was required to impede a continuation of Serbians killing innocent Bosnian civilians during the war of independence in Yugoslavia. I think that a better future is composed of learning mistakes of the past. Genocide is introduced into a ‘municipal law’ in a lot of countries to ensure that such event would never happen again.

Movie Deconstruction

“The Pianist” is a movie that illustrates the horrors of the holocaust, affecting a Jewish family living in Poland’s capital, Warsaw. After the Nazi army commenced World War II by attacking Poland, the whole country was paralyzed. Following “Cristal Nacht”, all Jews were located into segregated ghettos, where there was no possibility for them to leave. The Jews had no more rights, and they couldn’t do anything to defend themselves. The Jewish family experienced, during the main stage of the holocaust, cruel racism and insensitive limitations of the nazis.

· This movie is for any type of audience, except for children, because violence is an important theme during this story. It concerns everybody, because the whole world should know and learn about the holocaust, and how it came to it. I think a movie like this should be shown in educational centers as it offers a well understood resume of how easily it can happen that a terrible injustice like this is tolerated and even supported by a majority of people whom you would consider as discerning and “normal”.

· The Jewish community is represented as innocent, helpless and frightened people, affected by the horrible methods of the Nazi ruling and, at the same time, resigned to their fate. The Nazis are represented as evil and immoral soldiers that enforce the racist beliefs and values of Hitler.

· The meaning of this movie is to show and demonstrate the horrors of the holocaust by making it as real as possible. It was created so that everybody can understand and recognize what has happened during 1939 and 1945, not only as a war, but also as an intent of a race’s extermination.

· The stereotype of the nazis is perpetuated in this movie as they show themselves very cruel and pitiless. The image of the nazis is represented by a constant use of violence and terror. This violence is most used towards Jews, whose stereotype is represented as a depressed, discouraged and resigned community. Nevertheless, in a try to show that one can always be different, human, the stereotype of the nazis is broken down with the example of the “good” soldier, who risks his life by helping the main character, the pianist, to get food.

· The movie impacted me significantly. It gave me a clear vision of the dramatic situation lived by the Jewish people throughout World War II. I felt pity, shame, angriness… for the horrifying behavior of Nazis towards Jews. Always question general statements individually, by yourself! Things like this must never happen again!
